Cinemavixion Review

On December 8, 1980, the music world was irrevocably altered by the tragic assassination of John Lennon. This documentary, "I'm Shot! The True Crime Story Of John Lennon’s Murder," meticulously reconstructs the events of that devastating night. It delves into the chilling narrative of Mark David Chapman, tracing his arrival in New York, his obsession with J.D. Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye," and the descent into a violence that shocked the globe. The film draws upon the accounts of those present – eyewitnesses, law enforcement, and medical personnel – to paint a stark picture of the crime. Beyond the factual recounting, the documentary probes the psychological landscape of Chapman, exploring the complex interplay of admiration, disillusionment, and inner turmoil that culminated in this act. Rare prison interviews with Chapman offer a haunting glimpse into his motives and enduring regrets, providing a profound, albeit disturbing, reflection on the moment an icon was silenced. This is a somber, essential watch for enthusiasts of true crime and music history, offering a powerful, clear-eyed examination of a pivotal moment.
