Cinemavixion Review

"Il grande colpo dei 7 uomini d'oro" (1966), directed by Marco Vicario, is a stylish Italian caper film that blends crime intrigue with a touch of science fiction whimsy. Starring the charismatic Philippe Leroy as "The Professor," alongside the luminous Rossana Podestà and the capable Gastone Moschin, the film follows a group of elite thieves whose audacious train robbery is thwarted by American agents. Facing imprisonment, they are coerced into an even more daring mission: the abduction of a Latin American dictator. The narrative is propelled by a series of inventive gadgets, including jetpacks, which lend the film a groovy, almost Austin Powers-esque sensibility. Despite its relatively modest IMDb rating of 5.9, the movie offers a fast-paced and visually engaging experience, enhanced by its vibrant 16mm cinematography. Vicario, who also penned the screenplay, crafts a narrative that, while perhaps not groundbreaking, is certainly entertaining and memorable, particularly for its adventurous spirit and period flair. It's a delightful piece of 60s Euro-cinema that rewards viewers with its unique blend of action and playful absurdity.
