ICON

Cinemavixion Review

Tony Ahedo's "Icon" emerges as a poignant, albeit somber, exploration of impending fatherhood through the eyes of a young skateboarder named Sam. Released in 2021, the film grapples with the stark realities of adolescence colliding with the responsibilities of adulthood when Sam learns his girlfriend, Ana, is pregnant. The narrative, anchored by performances from Parker Padgett, Devon Hales, and Julia Denton, delves into Sam's struggle to embody the paternal figure he himself lacked. While the film received one win and two nominations, its quiet intensity and focus on the emotional turmoil of its protagonist offer a grounded perspective on a challenging life transition. "Icon" invites audiences to contemplate the unexpected paths to maturity and the profound impact of choice.
