Charlie Hamilton James, a photographer with a passion for wildlife, embarks on an ambitious project to purchase and protect a segment of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. Six months into his endeavor, however, the reality proves far harsher than anticipated. His purchased land, which he envisioned as a pristine sanctuary, is revealed to be little more than scrubland, further complicated by the presence of a squatter named Elias. Elias, who has planted a crop of manioc, repeatedly postpones his departure, leading Charlie to suspect illegal logging activities are being concealed under this delay. With his morale plummeting, Charlie's wife, Phillipa, travels from England, intending to lift his spirits and assess the financial outlay. United in their commitment to the park's original conservation goals, Phillipa encourages Charlie to venture deeper into the Manu region. Their journey becomes a quest to find one of the rainforest's most elusive inhabitants, offering a potentially redemptive experience amidst the project's considerable challenges.
