HOW TO RUIN THE HOLIDAYS

Cinemavixion Review

Arlen Konopaki's "How to Ruin the Holidays" offers a poignant, albeit somewhat uneven, exploration of familial obligation and personal sacrifice during the festive season. The film centers on a struggling comedian who, upon returning home, finds herself navigating the complexities of her eccentric relatives while confronting a profound decision regarding her special-needs brother. While the narrative touches on familiar holiday tropes, it strives for depth, particularly in its portrayal of the protagonist's internal conflict. Caroline Aaron, Freddy Boyd, and Ricky Boynton deliver earnest performances that anchor the emotional core of the story. Despite a reported 50% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film's willingness to delve into sensitive themes makes it a noteworthy, if imperfect, addition to the holiday cinema landscape, encouraging viewers to consider the less-than-perfect realities that often lie beneath the surface of holiday cheer.
