Cinemavixion Review

Dan Snow embarks on a compelling journey through the Welsh Marches in "How The Normans Invaded Wales," a segment from his "Norman Walks" series on Timeline. This documentary delves into the intricate process of Norman consolidation following William the Conqueror's ascension. Snow masterfully navigates the challenging Welsh borders, highlighting the strategic importance of motte and bailey castles erected by ambitious barons. The narrative vividly illustrates how these fortifications served as launching points for Norman expansion into Wales and Ireland, shaping the very landscape and social fabric of the region. The exploration extends beyond military strategy to encompass the enduring Norman influence on agriculture, forests, and land ownership, with Snow uncovering a remarkable instance of a family holding land for nearly a millennium. It's a rich exploration of history, architecture, and legacy, brought to life with Snow's characteristic enthusiasm and insightful commentary.
