Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, "How Russia Lost the Space Race: The Rise and Fall of the Russian Space Program," offers a compelling narrative of the Soviet Union's journey in space exploration. It vividly recounts the program's initial triumphs, from the historic launch of Sputnik to the first human spaceflight and spacewalk, achievements that defined the early space race. The film delves into the systemic fragility that underpinned these successes, charting the program's decline from the visionary leadership of Sergei Korolev through periods of severe financial strain. Audiences will be captivated by the exploration of clandestine missions, the poignant struggles to maintain the Mir space station amidst escalating failures and unpaid personnel, and the revelation of state secrets post-USSR. Through rare archival footage and expert analysis, the documentary uncovers a story rich with brilliance, sacrifice, propaganda, and resilience, illustrating how political ambition propelled rockets but ultimately failed to sustain the program's momentum. It traces the evolution from intense Cold War competition to collaborative efforts on the International Space Station, revealing the complex, often untold, history of Russia's cosmic legacy.
