HOW ANCIENT WILDERNESS FUELLED OUR ANCESTOR NIGHTMARES | MYTHS & MONSTERS | ABSOLUTE HISTORY

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary from Absolute History delves into the primal human fear of the unknown, specifically how ancient cultures perceived the wilderness not just as a source of resources, but as a realm fraught with peril and supernatural entities. By examining the Greek myth of Actaeon, the concept of the Celtic Otherworld, the terrifying Kraken, and the dark woods featured in the Brothers Grimm tales, the film illustrates a consistent thread of anxiety woven through our ancestral narratives. It posits that these 'nightmares' were a way to process and understand the inherent dangers of a world untamed, where mystery and darkness held sway. The exploration is rich with mythological examples, offering a fascinating glimpse into the psyche of our predecessors and the enduring power of these foundational stories.
