HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL

Cinemavixion Review

William Malone's "House on Haunted Hill" is a chilling descent into a classic horror premise, elevated by its stylish production and a palpable sense of dread. Geoffrey Rush embodies the eccentric millionaire, Frederick Loren, with a captivating blend of charisma and menace, drawing a disparate group into a deadly game within the confines of a house steeped in sinister history. The film masterfully builds suspense, transforming the promised reward into a terrifying ordeal as spectral forces and psychological torments blur the lines of reality. While the 1999 remake, boasting a notable cast including Famke Janssen and Taye Diggs, garnered mixed critical reception with a 31% on Rotten Tomatoes, its atmospheric tension and visual flair offer a compelling, albeit flawed, haunted house experience. It's a film that leans into its gothic roots, delivering a night of frights that lingers long after the credits roll.
