HOMESTATE

Cinemavixion Review

David Hickey's 'Homestate' offers a poignant, character-driven exploration of familial bonds tested by economic hardship and unexpected intrusion. The film masterfully captures the quiet anxieties of a middle-class family whose carefully constructed routine is disrupted by the arrival of Crystal’s troubled brother, Josh. Blaise Miller, as the patriarch Harvey, delivers a compelling performance, navigating the pressures of a failing business with a palpable sense of desperation. Grace Love portrays Crystal with understated strength, holding the family together amidst mounting tensions. The narrative unfolds with a naturalistic grace, gradually peeling back layers of unspoken resentments and hidden vulnerabilities. While the external data notes a single win, likely for its understated quality, 'Homestate' resonates as a deeply human drama that probes the complexities of love, loyalty, and the sacrifices made in the name of family. Its intimate focus and relatable struggles make it a compelling watch for those who appreciate grounded storytelling.
