HOMECOMING

Cinemavixion Review

Morgan J. Freeman's 2009 thriller 'Homecoming' plunges into the dark undercurrents of small-town obsession and a lingering past. The narrative, centered on Mike's return home with a new girlfriend, Elizabeth (Jessica Stroup), ignites a tempestuous rivalry with his ex, Shelby (Mischa Barton). Barton delivers a chilling performance, embodying Shelby's desperate possessiveness and escalating malice with unnerving conviction. The film masterfully builds tension, particularly after a pivotal accident, transforming a seemingly simple homecoming into a suspenseful battle for affection. While the critical reception, as indicated by a low Rotten Tomatoes score, suggests a divisive viewing experience, the film's exploration of jealousy and its destructive consequences offers a compelling, albeit unsettling, character study. It's a potent reminder of how unresolved emotions can lead to devastating outcomes.
