HOLLYWOOD'S WILD WEST COWBOYS, INDIANS, AND THE SILVER SCREEN

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a critical and timely examination of how cinema has historically portrayed First Nations culture and history, often perpetuating misunderstandings. "Hollywood's Wild West Cowboys, Indians, and the Silver Screen" traces the evolution of Indigenous representation from the silent film era to contemporary cinema. By weaving together archival movie clips with insightful interviews from both Indigenous and non-Indigenous filmmakers and actors, the film provides a nuanced perspective on the potent influence of movies in shaping, and sometimes challenging, the on-screen image of Native peoples. It is a significant contribution to understanding the complex relationship between Hollywood and Indigenous narratives.
