HISTORIAN MIKE LOADES DEBUNKS 'THE AGINCOURT MYTH'

Cinemavixion Review

Mike Loades, a distinguished figure in popular history, offers a compelling deconstruction of the enduring 'Agincourt Myth' in this insightful discussion with Dan Snow. Loades meticulously examines the Battle of Agincourt (1415), challenging the romanticized portrayal of Henry V's forces. He posits that these were less a unified 'band of brothers' and more akin to a group of opportunistic brigands. The conversation delves into the intricacies of the era's weaponry, armor, and tactical strategies, directly confronting the popular narratives shaped by enduring cultural touchstones like Shakespeare's plays and Laurence Olivier's iconic film adaptation. This examination serves as a vital corrective, encouraging a more nuanced understanding of a pivotal historical event and the realities of medieval warfare.
