HIGH ON SPACE WEED, MARTIAN TROOPS INVADE EARTH

Cinemavixion Review

This 2006 film, "High On SPACE WEED, Martian Troops Invade Earth," offers a playful nod to the B-movie sci-fi and horror genre of the 1950s, with a particular affection for its 80s remake sensibilities. Set in the seemingly idyllic year of 1957, a time characterized by iconic car fins, vibrant rockabilly tunes, and the innocence of teenage romance, the narrative takes a sharp turn into the absurd. The arrival of Martians, depicted as intergalactic invaders with a penchant for 'space weed' and a sinister agenda involving the harvesting of Earth women, shatters this pastoral vision. The plot centers on the unlikely hero, Johnny Keen, a 'square' teenager who must rise to the occasion. Aided by his beatnik acquaintance, Maynard, Johnny faces the threat of 'Zombie Beatniks' and must learn to embrace a cooler persona to rescue his girlfriend, Susie, and ultimately, the planet. It's a premise ripe for campy fun, blending elements of alien invasion, teen rebellion, and a dash of horror.
