Alan Le May's 1950 Western, "High Lonesome," plunges viewers into the stark, unforgiving landscape of Texas' Big Bend country. The film masterfully builds suspense as a young drifter, portrayed with a compelling blend of vulnerability and defensiveness by John Drew Barrymore, becomes the prime suspect in a series of murders. The narrative cleverly employs the arid terrain and isolated ranch setting to amplify the sense of unease and suspicion that permeates the community.
