HIGH CS RESTORED

Cinemavixion Review

"High Cs Restored" offers a surprisingly poignant look at the Great War through the eyes of Charley Chase, a doughboy whose passion for music becomes his solace amidst the chaos. As Charlie, Chase injects his characteristic charm into a role that demands both comedic timing and a touch of pathos. His burgeoning romance with the local barmaid, Antoinette, provides a tender counterpoint to the grim realities of trench warfare. The film cleverly uses Charlie's musical aspirations, particularly his talent for singing in a quartet, as a recurring motif that underscores the human desire for beauty and connection even in the darkest of times. While the narrative navigates Charlie's journey from hopeful soldier to sergeant, it’s the tension between his personal aspirations and the brutal demands of war, amplified by his conflicts with a cantankerous lieutenant, that truly elevates this charming, if simple, wartime tale.
