HEROES ON THE POTOMAC | CRITICAL RESCUE

Cinemavixion Review

On January 13, 1982, a chilling blizzard descended upon Washington National Airport, setting the stage for a harrowing tragedy. Air Florida Flight 90, shortly after takeoff, encountered a critical malfunction. The aircraft's nose pitched upward, yet it failed to gain altitude, succumbing to a fatal stall. At 4:01 PM, the Boeing 737 plunged into the frigid Potomac River, dragging a section of the 14th Street Bridge and several vehicles with it. Amidst the chaos and the icy deluge, ordinary citizens like Lenny Skutnik displayed extraordinary courage, braving the treacherous waters to rescue survivors. This documentary-style account, directed by Joe Wiecha, reconstructs the harrowing events, highlighting the bravery of first responders and bystanders in the face of disaster.
