HER SMELL

Cinemavixion Review

Alex Ross Perry's 'Her Smell' plunges into the chaotic world of Becky Something, a punk rock icon whose self-destructive tendencies threaten to derail her band's legacy and her own fragile recovery. Elisabeth Moss delivers a powerhouse performance as the magnetic yet volatile frontwoman, embodying the raw, untamed spirit of a musician grappling with addiction and the ghosts of her past. While the film's narrative structure can be as disorienting as Becky's own mental state, mirroring the fragmented nature of addiction and creative burnout, it offers a searingly honest portrayal of a life teetering on the edge. The ensemble cast, including Cara Delevingne and Dan Stevens, provides crucial support, navigating the complex relationships fractured by Becky's behavior. 'Her Smell' is not an easy watch, but it is a compelling and unflinching examination of fame, artistic integrity, and the arduous journey toward redemption. Its critical reception, noted by its numerous award nominations and positive reviews, attests to its artistic merit and the profound impact of its central performance.
