HELL IN THE AEGEAN

Cinemavixion Review

This 1970 film, directed by Vasilis Georgiadis, plunges into the dramatic events of May 1941. Following the German invasion of Greece and Athens, a determined cadet named Nikiforos Kallergis, alongside his classmates, embarks on a perilous mission. Their objective is to safeguard the Bank of Greece's gold, which they are transporting aboard a hospital ship. Their journey takes them first to Crete, just as German forces launch their assault on the island. The narrative follows the desperate efforts of both Greek and British soldiers to move the valuable cargo to a Greek destroyer positioned south of Crete, all amidst the brutal backdrop of the Battle of Crete. The film captures the tension and high stakes of this critical period in World War II history.
