HELD FOR RANSOM: THE FIGHT TO SAVE ERITREAN REFUGEES

Cinemavixion Review

Keren Shayo's "Held for Ransom: The Fight to Save Eritrean Refugees" is a harrowing and essential documentary that pulls back the curtain on the brutal realities faced by Eritrean refugees fleeing dictatorship. Since Europe's border closures in 2006, thousands have embarked on perilous journeys across the Sinai desert, only to fall prey to captors in clandestine camps. This film bravely chronicles the devastating experiences of those held for ransom, the unimaginable suffering they endure, and the agonizing helplessness of families striving for their rescue. Through poignant firsthand accounts and the tireless efforts of activists, the documentary exposes one of the most tragic and overlooked crises in contemporary migration, serving as a powerful testament to human resilience and the desperate pursuit of freedom.
