HAUNTED

Cinemavixion Review

Lewis Gilbert's 1995 film 'Haunted' offers a chilling descent into psychological unease, blending supernatural dread with familial secrets. Based on James Herbert's novel, the film stars Aidan Quinn as Professor David Ash, a rationalist tasked with debunking paranormal claims at a remote estate. However, as Ash delves deeper into the mysteries surrounding the Mariell family and the troubled nanny, Tess, his own grip on reality begins to fray. Kate Beckinsale and Anthony Andrews provide compelling support as members of the enigmatic family. While the film garnered a respectable 80% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.2/10 on IMDb, it remains a less discussed entry in the horror canon. 'Haunted' excels in its atmospheric tension and gradual unraveling of its central mystery, making it a worthy watch for those who appreciate slow-burn horror that prioritizes mood and psychological torment over jump scares.
