"Hard Times" (2009) is a darkly comedic Irish crime caper that plunges into the grim realities of a declining village, Kilcoulin's Leap. Director Tom Reeve, working from a script by Michael O'Mahony, crafts a narrative around Podger Byrnes, a local postman whose ill-fated get-rich-quick scheme involving a Viagra heist sets off a chain of increasingly absurd events.
