Tom Reeve's "Hard Times" offers a darkly comedic glimpse into the desperate measures one might take when faced with economic blight. Set in the fading Irish village of Kilcoulin's Leap, the film centers on Podger Byrnes, a mailman whose ill-conceived plan to hijack and sell Viagra spirals into a chaotic, Viagra-filled misadventure. The ensemble cast, featuring John Lynch, Cornelius Clarke, and Lochlann O'Mearáin, grounds the absurd premise with a palpable sense of local desperation and camaraderie. While the narrative may veer into the farcical, it's underpinned by a sharp, albeit bleak, commentary on ambition and consequence.
