HAPPY SLAPPING

Cinemavixion Review

Christos Sourligas's 'Happy Slapping' plunges into the dark underbelly of contemporary youth culture, where the pursuit of digital notoriety fuels a terrifying spiral of violence. The film masterfully captures the hollowness of a generation seeking validation through shock value, as five suburban youths descend upon the city, their every act of aggression documented and disseminated via smartphone. The narrative escalates when their reckless endeavors attract unwanted attention from a rival gang and their own online idol, forcing them to push the boundaries of their depravity. Sourligas crafts a visceral and unsettling portrait of ambition gone awry, questioning the extreme lengths to which individuals will go to achieve fleeting fame. The film serves as a stark, cautionary tale, leaving audiences to ponder the true cost of viral infamy.
