HABSBURGS' HOMELAND

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, "Habsburgs' Homeland," produced by Erbe Österreich and directed by Alexander Frohner, offers a fascinating glimpse into the origins of one of Europe's most influential dynasties. Set against the backdrop of Switzerland, the film traces the Habsburgs' early history from their ancestral seat, the castle of Habichtsburg, to their ascendance to power in Vienna. Designer Alexander Frohner expertly weaves together historical narrative and visual exploration, highlighting the enduring, albeit often overlooked, connection between the Habsburgs and their Swiss roots. The compelling narrative underscores the symbolic importance of locations like the Muri Abbey, a testament to the dynasty's past grandeur and its lasting legacy, even extending to the final resting place of Austria’s last imperial couple. It is a journey that illuminates the foundations of an empire.
