GUARDIAN OF THE ANCIENT SHADOW CROWN

Cinemavixion Review

In "Guardian of the Ancient Shadow Crown," director Colin Downey crafts a charming, albeit familiar, fantasy adventure suitable for younger audiences. Released in 2014, the film centers on Matthew, a lonely nine-year-old who stumbles upon a portal to a magical realm hidden within his grandmother's garden. Here, he befriends mystical beings and is thrust into a quest to safeguard the titular Ancient Shadow Crown from the malevolent witch Geldren. The narrative unfolds as a classic 'chosen one' tale, emphasizing themes of bravery, the power of friendship, and the eternal struggle between good and evil. While the plot might tread well-worn ground, the film's sincerity and focus on its young protagonist's journey offer a heartwarming experience. The presence of a prophecy and the need to protect both the magical land and the human world from encroaching darkness lend a sense of urgency to Matthew's adventure, making it a solid choice for family viewing.
