Cinemavixion Review

William Witney's "Grand Canyon Trail" is a spirited Republic Pictures Western that trots along with the familiar charm of Roy Rogers and his trusty steed, Trigger. Set against the backdrop of a deserted ghost town, the film charts a course for silver prospecting, injecting a dose of musical numbers like 'Colorado Joe' and 'Everything's Going My Way' into the rugged narrative. Andy Devine provides his usual comedic relief as Cookie Bullfincher, while veteran silent film actor James Finlayson makes a notable appearance as the local sheriff, a nod to classic Hollywood that buffs will appreciate. While the plot, involving a hunt for silver and a crooked engineer, is standard for the genre, the film's appeal lies in its earnest performances and the enduring appeal of Rogers' brand of Western heroism, all presented with Witney's competent direction. A solid entry for fans of classic singing cowboy films.
