GORBACHEV'S USSR: THE EVENTS THAT LED TO THE COLLAPSE OF THE SOVIET UNION | M.A.D WORLD | TIMELINE

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the pivotal events that precipitated the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the conclusion of the Cold War. It meticulously chronicles the seismic shifts in Eastern Europe, where nations, inspired by Poland's lead, began to assert their independence and embrace democratic reforms, a stark departure from historical Soviet intervention. The narrative highlights the serendipitous opening of the Berlin Wall, a moment of profound jubilation symbolizing the end of an era of division. The review also touches upon the violent, yet ultimately successful, struggle for freedom in Romania, culminating in the tragic execution of the Ceaușescu regime. Furthermore, it examines the reunification of Germany and explores Gorbachev's reformist policies of 'Glasnost' and 'Perestroika,' intended to revitalize the Soviet economy but ultimately unleashing forces that led to the secession of its republics. The film presents a compelling account of a complex geopolitical transformation, underscoring the fragility of superpower dominance and the enduring human desire for self-determination.
