Cinemavixion Review

"Gli attendenti" (1961), directed by Giorgio Bianchi, offers a comedic slice-of-life look at the dynamics between officers and their orderlies in Rome. The film weaves together several distinct narratives, each centered around the unique relationships and personal entanglements that arise within the confines of military life and shared living spaces. We see the complexities of Major Penna's life, the romantic predicaments of Lieutenant Martucci and his orderly Antonio, and the affections of De Acutis, an orderly to Colonel Terenzi, for the colonel's daughter. Starring Vittorio De Sica, Renato Rascel, and Dorian Gray, the film delves into the everyday struggles and joys of its characters, providing a charming, albeit sometimes predictable, glimpse into Italian society of the era. While not a groundbreaking work, "Gli attendenti" succeeds in its lighthearted portrayal of human connection and the often-unseen bonds that form between those in service and their superiors.
