GIRL IN MAGIC IMAGINATION

Cinemavixion Review

This film delves into the psychological aftermath of childhood trauma through the story of Jiang Xiaoai. Following a tragic car accident that claimed her mother's life, Xiaoai's father crafts an elaborate magical narrative to help her cope. While this imaginative shield allows Xiaoai to overcome her grief, it inadvertently leads her to develop a persistent 'second-year syndrome.' The film explores the delicate balance between escapism and reality, and how the stories we tell ourselves can shape our perception and development, even into adulthood. The performance by Liu An Qi as Xiaoai is central to conveying the character's internal struggles and her journey through a world colored by both pain and fantasy.
