GIRL BAND BATTLES BEACH BEAST

Cinemavixion Review

Jay Wade Edwards' 2005 offering, "Girl Band Battles Beach Beast," is a delightful cult romp that playfully skewers the classic 1960s beach party genre. The premise is simple yet effective: an all-girl garage band finds their tour abruptly halted when their vehicle breaks down in a sleepy beach town. As if mechanical trouble wasn't enough, the coast is suddenly plagued by a foul-smelling creature, a cryptid that the local populace, and soon the band themselves, dub the Skunk Ape. What follows is a riotous blend of surf-rock performances, which the band uses to fund their repairs, and a surprisingly engaging monster hunt. The film masterfully balances campy humor with genuine B-movie thrills, culminating in a wild showdown with the creature. Featuring a lively soundtrack and a cast including Claire Bronson and Cynthia Evans, this film is a loud, retro-infused celebration of B-movie absurdity and Southern folklore, perfect for those seeking a fun, campy escape.
