William Beaudine's "Ghosts on the Loose" offers a charmingly anachronistic blend of youthful hijinks and mild spookiness. Set in 1943, the film follows the familiar antics of the East Side Kids as they endeavor to surprise a newlywed couple with a renovated home. Their good intentions, however, lead them to a neighboring house, purportedly haunted, which is actually a front for nefarious activities. The film capitalizes on the established chemistry of its young cast, particularly Leo Gorcey and Huntz Hall, whose comedic timing provides much of the entertainment. While not a profound cinematic experience, it delivers a lighthearted B-movie diversion. The presence of Bela Lugosi, though not explicitly highlighted in all cast listings, adds a touch of classic horror allure, hinting at the film's dual nature as both a comedy and a mild thriller.
