Monogram Pictures' "Ghosts on the Loose" offers a curious blend of youthful exuberance and spectral shenanigans, pairing the iconic Bela Lugosi with the ever-popular East Side Kids. Directed by William Beaudine, the film centers on the gang's well-intentioned, albeit misguided, efforts to renovate a house for a newlywed couple. Their efforts soon uncover a house riddled with secret passages and shadowed by suspicious figures, making for a "spook comedy" that plays to the strengths of its ensemble. Leo Gorcey as Mugs and Huntz Hall as Gimpy deliver their signature performances, anchoring the comedic elements.
