GENDER TRANSITION: BECOMING JULIA

Cinemavixion Review

This intimate documentary offers a compelling look into the personal journey of Paul, who embarks on a gender transition to live as Julia. Over two years, the film captures the deconstruction and reconstruction of a life, challenging conventional notions of gender. Paul, initially presented as a straightforward, single, straight bus driver with a penchant for cars and farming, harbors a profound inner truth: he has always felt like a woman. The film navigates the everyday challenges of this transition with unflinching humor and surprising honesty, dismantling stereotypes about masculinity and femininity. Julia's narrative is one of endearing determination, refusing to be confined by pre-ordained expectations. Ultimately, 'Becoming Julia' is not about achieving an idealized gender, but about the courage to live authentically and uniquely.
