GENDER PAY GAP IN THE ART MARKET

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the intricate and often opaque world of the global art market, a sector valued at a staggering 67.8 billion dollars. It seeks to unravel the complex power structures, the interplay of vanity and myth, and the profound inequality that lies beneath the surface of this glamorous industry. Since the 1990s, industrialization has accelerated the art trade and globalized collective taste, yet the market's inner workings remain elusive. The film poses critical questions: How does this market function? Who dictates prices? How do auction houses and galleries operate? Why do the ultra-wealthy invest in art, what is the ultimate fate of artists, and what impact does the internet have on the art trade? By examining the German art market, 'Gender Pay Gap in the Art Market' aims to illuminate the broader mechanisms of the global art industry, offering a critical perspective on its dynamics and inherent challenges.
