GATES OF HELL - NAPLES, A LIFE UNDER CAMORRA

Cinemavixion Review

Napoli, a city steeped in history, also harbors a darker narrative woven through the pervasive influence of the Camorra. This documentary ventures into the heart of this intricate, often violent, ecosystem, exploring how centuries of criminal family dominance have shaped the lives of its inhabitants. The film unflinchingly portrays the harsh realities faced by business owners, caught between crippling extortion demands and the ever-present threat of destruction, arson, or murder. By engaging with both the communities and, remarkably, with members of the gangs themselves, the filmmakers attempt to illuminate the complex dynamics of this entrenched criminal structure. It's a stark, unflinching look at resilience and survival in the face of overwhelming organized crime.
