GALLIPOLI'S HIDDEN FRONT: THE AIR WAR UNVEILED

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a fascinating dual perspective on the Gallipoli Campaign. On one hand, it delves into the often-overlooked aerial dimension of the conflict, focusing on the pioneering role of aircraft like the Bristol Scout. The reconstruction of a functional Bristol Scout is a remarkable feat, allowing for a unique visual and experiential journey back in time. Professor Saul David expertly guides viewers through the military significance of these early air sorties. Complementing this historical overview is a deeply personal narrative, as David Bremner retraces the flight paths of his grandfather, Francis Bremner, a Bristol Scout pilot during the campaign. The painstaking efforts of David and Rick Bremner to rebuild their grandfather's aircraft using original sketchbooks and sourced parts underscore a profound dedication to honoring his legacy. The film successfully blends the grand sweep of military history with an intimate family quest, providing a poignant and informative look at a critical period of the First World War.
