FREUD IN VIENNA

Cinemavixion Review

This intriguing short film, "Freud in Vienna," presents a stark juxtaposition of two young men navigating early 20th-century Vienna. Hugo, a scion of a well-to-do family, seeks solace and self-understanding through psychoanalysis with the burgeoning Sigmund Freud. His path is contrasted with that of Adolf, a penniless artist with a penchant for vegetarianism, whose artistic aspirations become tragically overshadowed by a burgeoning infatuation with German nationalism. The film, featuring a notable performance by Alan Cumming, offers a thought-provoking glimpse into the divergent trajectories individuals can take when confronted with personal struggles and the seductive allure of powerful ideologies. Despite its brevity, the narrative probes complex themes of identity, ambition, and the socio-political currents that shape lives.
