FLYING BY

Cinemavixion Review

Jim Amatulli's 2009 film "Flying By" offers a poignant exploration of midlife rediscovery set against the backdrop of returning to one's youthful passions. Starring Billy Ray Cyrus, Heather Locklear, and the legendary Patricia Neal, the film centers on a real estate developer who, at his 25th high school reunion, is drawn back into the world of music with his old band. The narrative delicately balances the protagonist's internal conflict between professional obligations, marital strain, and the rekindled joy of performing, with his family's reactions – his wife's outrage, his daughter's tentative approval, and his mother's gentle encouragement. While the film garnered a modest 4.2 rating on IMDb, its strength lies in its relatable theme of seizing opportunities for personal fulfillment, even when faced with significant life pressures. The plot unfolds as the band's burgeoning success leads to a potential tour, forcing the protagonist into a critical decision that impacts his marriage, family, and career. "Flying By" is a gentle reminder that it's never too late to chase a dream, even if it means navigating complex personal relationships and career crossroads.
