FIXED

Cinemavixion Review

In the gritty British thriller "Fixed" (2021), director Jez Alsop crafts a claustrophobic and high-stakes narrative centered on Daz Clemence, portrayed with palpable desperation. The film plunges us into the precarious world of low-level gambling and bare-knuckle fights, where a single misstep can lead to fatal consequences. Daz, attempting to escape a life of crime and reconcile with his son, finds himself in an impossible bind: accused of fixing a fight and left for dead by a vengeful gangster. With his plane scheduled to depart in an hour, Daz must not only escape his grim confinement but also settle debts and steer his son away from the dangerous path he himself is trying to leave behind. The film excels in its contained tension, effectively utilizing its limited setting to amplify Daz's anxiety and adrenaline-fueled fight for survival. While it garnered a nomination, "Fixed" offers a raw and compelling cinematic experience, proving that gripping thrillers can emerge from tightly drawn premises and committed performances.
