FINAL MOVE

Cinemavixion Review

Jon Cohen's 2013 thriller, "Final Move," presents a grim cat-and-mouse game where disgraced ex-detective Nick Mathers is thrust back into the darkness he tried to escape. The film centers on a sadistic killer, dubbed the Grand Master, who uses a deadly game of chess as his canvas for terror. When the killer escalates his game by targeting Mathers' daughter, the stakes become intensely personal, transforming a professional obligation into a desperate race against time. Richard Carwin, Chelsea Giles, and Jai Koutrae anchor the narrative, bringing a palpable sense of urgency to the unfolding events. The plot, as detailed in both sources, hinges on the intricate connection between chess strategy and the killer's gruesome methods, with the city itself becoming a macabre game board. Mathers must not only outwit a cunning adversary but also contend with the ticking clock and the escalating paranoia among the victims. "Final Move" is a taut thriller that explores the lengths a father will go to when his family is threatened, offering a suspenseful dive into the mind of a killer and the desperate measures of the detective pursuing him.
