FIGHTING ICEBERGS AND NAZIS: CHURCHILL’S FLEETS TO RUSSIA

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, "Fighting Icebergs and Nazis: Churchill’s Fleets To Russia," compellingly chronicles the perilous Arctic Convoys, a vital lifeline to the Soviet Union during World War II. Through Operation Dervish and subsequent voyages, Allied ships braved brutal Arctic conditions—minus 30-degree temperatures, gale-force winds, dense fog, and treacherous ice—to deliver essential supplies. Dan Snow's exploration highlights not only the unforgiving natural environment but also the constant threat from German U-boats and air raids. The immense sacrifices made are underscored by the loss of 3,000 men and 105 ships across 78 convoys between 1941 and 1945. This is a profound look at the courage and resilience required for these critical, high-stakes missions, revealing the ultimate price paid by those who sailed these dangerous northern waters.
