FATHER'S LITTLE DIVIDEND

Cinemavixion Review

Vincente Minnelli's "Father's Little Dividend" revisits the Banks family with the same warmth and gentle humor that defined its predecessor, "Father of the Bride." Spencer Tracy returns as Stanley Banks, a man grappling with the profound, and at times comically bewildering, transition to grandfatherhood. Tracy's portrayal is masterful, capturing the anxieties of aging and the unexpected joys of a new generation with exquisite timing and subtle pathos. Elizabeth Taylor, though younger here, imbues Kay with a growing maturity, while Joan Bennett provides a grounding, supportive presence as the matriarch. The film expertly balances Stanley's internal monologue of dismay with the external reality of impending parenthood, offering a poignant yet lighthearted look at family dynamics. It’s a charming continuation that resonates with universal themes of love, legacy, and the ever-changing rhythm of family life.
