FATHER'S LITTLE DIVIDEND

Cinemavixion Review

Vincente Minnelli's "Father's Little Dividend" is a delightful continuation of the "Father of the Bride" saga, starring the ever-charming Spencer Tracy and a radiant Elizabeth Taylor. Tracy reprises his role as Stanley Banks, who, in this installment, grapples humorously with the impending arrival of his first grandchild. The film masterfully captures the anxieties and joys of a father navigating this new chapter, leading to a series of endearing and comical misadventures. Shot with remarkable efficiency in just 22 days in 1950, the same year Minnelli helmed the iconic "An American in Paris," this film stands as a testament to his directorial prowess. The supporting cast, including the wonderful Joan Bennett, the effervescent Billie Burke, and a surprisingly mature performance from a young Russ Tamblyn, adds significant depth and warmth to this charming family classic.
