EVERYTHING HAPPENS TO ANNIE

Cinemavixion Review

In "Everything Happens to Annie," director Al Christie crafts a delightful screwball comedy that, despite its 1940 origins, still sparkles with wit and charm. Heather Angel delivers a captivating performance as Anne Gladden, a schoolteacher yearning for excitement beyond her provincial life. Angel masterfully portrays Anne's transformation from a demure educator to a woman embracing newfound confidence, leading her on a whirlwind adventure. The narrative cleverly intertwines burgeoning romance with a hilariously chaotic series of misunderstandings involving a stolen car, a gangster, and a corpse. John 'Dusty' King provides a charming foil as the handsome stranger Anne encounters, their chemistry palpable amidst the escalating absurdity. The film's strength lies in its brisk pacing and the ensemble cast's comedic timing, particularly Walter Catlett and Tom Dugan, who add layers of hilarity. "Everything Happens to Annie" is a testament to the enduring appeal of classic Hollywood's lighter fare, offering a thoroughly entertaining escape.
