ETERNAL SPRING: THE HEIST OF CHINA'S AIRWAVES

Cinemavixion Review

In March 2002, the state television airwaves of China were commandeered by members of the spiritual group Falun Gong, a bold move intended to broadcast their perspective against the prevailing government narrative. This act of defiance triggered a swift and severe crackdown, with police raids engulfing Changchun City. Among those forced to flee was Daxiong, a comic book illustrator known for his work on "Justice League" and "Star Wars." Initially burdened by guilt, believing the hijacking exacerbated the persecution of his fellow practitioners, Daxiong's understanding is profoundly reshaped when he encounters the sole surviving participant of the event, now residing in Seoul, South Korea. The documentary "Eternal Spring: The Heist of China's Airwaves" masterfully interweaves contemporary footage with vivid 3D animation, drawing directly from Daxiong's distinctive artistic style. This unique fusion brings to life an extraordinary narrative of courage, presenting harrowing eyewitness testimonies of persecution alongside an inspiring saga of resolve. It is a powerful testament to the unyielding pursuit of political and religious freedoms, underscoring the immense personal sacrifices made in the quest to be heard.
