DRIVERX

Cinemavixion Review

Henry Barrial's 'DriverX' offers a poignant look at the anxieties of modern middle age, refracted through the lens of the gig economy. Patrick Fabian delivers a compelling performance as a stay-at-home father forced into the precarious world of ridesharing to support his family. The film masterfully captures the soul-crushing grind of low-wage work and the isolating nature of late-night city driving, all while exploring the escalating tensions within his marriage. While the narrative occasionally treads familiar ground, Barrial's direction imbues the story with a raw authenticity, particularly in its depiction of Los Angeles after dark. The film's festival recognition and subsequent US release by IFC underscore its resonance, presenting a timely and affecting portrait of a man navigating economic hardship and personal strain.
