DREAMOVER

Cinemavixion Review

Roman Olkhovka's "Dreamover" presents a poignant exploration of memory, regret, and the human yearning for connection. Set in 2021, the film centers on Dmitriy, an aging and isolated man who stumbles upon a clinic offering a radical treatment for nightmares: a device capable of replacing them. This premise quickly evolves as Dmitriy's participation in the experiment unlocks a forgotten romance, compelling him to seek out his old friend, Max. The narrative unfolds with a delicate touch, charting Dmitriy's rekindled relationship and the subsequent emotional journey. As he relives cherished memories, the film astutely observes how the very act of revisiting the past, especially when one is "doomed to wake up from them," can transform into a personal nightmare. The repetition of Dmitriy's plight in the description underscores the film's thematic core: the potential for cherished memories to become a torment when they highlight the present's misery. "Dreamover" is a thoughtful character study, elevated by the performances of Ilya Chepyrev and Angelina Savchenko. The film has garnered critical acclaim, evidenced by its 18 wins and 8 nominations, and holds a respectable 7.0 rating on IMDb. It is a compelling piece for those interested in introspective dramas that delve into the complexities of the human psyche and the enduring power of love, even in the twilight of life.
