DREAMING HOLLYWOOD

Cinemavixion Review

Frank Martinez's "Dreaming Hollywood" plunges viewers into the chaotic underbelly of the film industry, following the journey of Ray Balfi, a screenwriter whose dreams of stardom are shattered when his screenplay is stolen and produced without his credit. This dark, action-comedy, released in 2021, stars Madelyn Allen and Turk Matthews, who navigate a world populated by dealers, crooks, and con artists. The narrative spirals into mayhem as Ray attempts to reclaim his stolen work, exposing the deceptive nature of Hollywood where appearances are deceiving and aspirations can turn perilous. Martinez crafts a Kubrick-esque atmosphere, blending bizarre characters, social rejects, and sociopaths with unexpected musical interludes and violent outbursts. While the film's IMDb rating of 3.2/10 suggests a polarizing reception, its unique blend of crime, dark humor, and surreal elements offers a distinctive, albeit wild, cinematic ride for those seeking an unconventional Hollywood narrative.
