DONT MESS UP OUR RACE

Cinemavixion Review

Alex Maisonette's "Don't Mess Up Our Race" delves into the complex dynamics of love, family, and racial identity in the vibrant setting of East Harlem. The film centers on the daughter of a light-skinned Puerto Rican family who finds herself falling for an African American man. This burgeoning romance ignites a firestorm when her father discovers the relationship, challenging deeply ingrained notions of race and community. Set against the backdrop of the housing projects, the narrative promises a dramatic exploration of prejudice within a close-knit neighborhood, highlighting the societal pressures that can arise when love crosses perceived boundaries of complexion and race. The film appears poised to offer a poignant look at the challenges faced by individuals navigating familial expectations and societal norms in their pursuit of genuine connection.
